Daly CityBordering the southernmost edge of San Francisco, Daly City is amongst the oldest communities in San Mateo County. Daly City is steeped in history and rich with culture. After much exploration throughout the peninsula and a series of changes in land ownership, Daly City earned its name from renowned businessman, John Donald Daly. Complementing its rich heritage, Daly City also has many modern influences. Newer residential and commercial developments have allowed Daly City to increase in both size and housing density. Many nicer developments in Daly City offer great accommodation for their residents including views of the ocean and nearby downtown San Francisco.

If you’re looking for leisurely activities, several golf courses decorate Daly City’s border with San Francisco including: San Francisco Golf Club, Lake Merced Golf Club and The Olympic Club. To the west of Daly City, you’ll find the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (link) including the city's Thornton Beach. On any given day, you can go out and watch the hang gliders and paragliders riding the coastal updrafts.

The Daly City Parks and Recreation Department serves Daly City and the surrounding area, offering over 259 classes, sponsoring athletic leagues, gymnastics, a comprehensive senior adult program, park maintenance, hall rentals, and more. Giammona Pool and Jefferson Pool are two public indoor swimming pools that provide swimming lessons, aquatic recreation, and host local swimming related organizations including the Daly City Dolphins.
